100 Mandalas Challenge - No. 1

I confess I start challenges and NEVER finish them. However, artist Kathryn Costa's 100 Mandalas Challenge is more focused so hopefully I can keep the momentum going. The 100 Mandalas Challenge is part of Kathryn's True North site. I'm starting at the beginning of the challenge, which makes me already four months behind with the weekly themes! But the Start Simple approach on Kathryn's Collage Diva blog, and working through from there, is more appealing than jumping in with this week's theme.

The week one challenge is, essentially, is doodling in a circle. Start in the center and work outwards. At first I didn't turn the paper! As the design became bigger I realized I should turn the paper as I worked around and around. What started out as rather lopsided became, in the end, a bit more symmetrical. Once I got into it I enjoyed the process. I used a white Uniball Signo pen on black cardstock. It was a deliberate choice to keep it simple. I would be unable to ruin it by attempting to shade the drawing for a 3D effect!

I also had some music playing in the background as I worked. This is my Musical Mandalas playlist on Spotify. I will also post this on the Pinterest Board and in the Facebook Group. We are also encouraged to use the hashtag #100Mandalas. Click image for a larger view. Thanks for looking!
